Keeping your account secure
Your account security is always top of mind for us. Here are some tips to keep your TikTok account safe and secure:
1. Link a phone number and email address to your TikTok account.
We recommend adding two contact methods to your account. This way, if one linked method is compromised, you have an alternative login method.
To link a phone number and email address to your account:
1. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
2. Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top.
3. Tap Settings and privacy.
4. Tap Account, then tap User Information.
5. Enter your phone number and email address.
6. Tap Send code, then enter the verification codes sent to you via SMS and email.

2. Create a strong and unique password.
Choose a password that's unique to you and difficult for others to guess.
To make a strong TikTok password:
• Aim for 12 to 15 characters long.
• Use a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
• Change your password often. We suggest updating it every 30 days.
3. Add a passkey to your TikTok account.
For a more secure and simplified login method, we strongly recommend setting up a passkey on your TikTok account. A passkey is a cryptographic key stored on your mobile device that can be used to log in to your TikTok account without having to remember a password.
Passkeys can provide a more secure login method than traditional passwords because they take advantage of security features already allowed on your device, such as Face ID (Apple), Passcode (Apple), Touch Unlock (Android), and PIN (Android). Additionally, you can log in to your passkey-enabled TikTok account from any device that is also signed in to your Apple ID or Google account.
Learn more about how to log in to your TikTok account with a passkey.
To set up a passkey on your TikTok account:
1. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
2. Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top.
3. Tap Settings and privacy.
4. Tap Account.
5. Tap Passkey, then tap Set up on the next screen and follow the instructions provided. If you create a passkey through Google Password Manager, you'll be redirected to this screen to complete the setup.
The next time you log in, you'll be prompted to log in through your saved passkey.
4. Turn on 2-step verification.
To further protect your account, we strongly recommend turning on 2-step verification (2SV). This is a common account security feature that adds an extra layer of protection to help us verify it's you if you log in from an unrecognized device.
Additionally, 2SV provides an added layer of security to your account in case your password is compromised. Many people only have one layer to protect their account, which is their password. However, if someone obtains your password and you have 2SV turned on, they'll still need access to your phone or email address when attempting to log in to your account.
To turn on 2-step verification:
1. Tap Profile at the bottom .
2. Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top.
3. Tap Settings and privacy, then tap Security.
4. Tap 2-step verification and choose at least two verification methods:
༚ Phone (recommended)
༚ Email (recommended)
༚ Authenticator (recommended). You'll need an authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator, installed on your device to use this option. Follow the instructions provided on the next screen to scan the QR code or copy the key provided. Enter the key on the authenticator app when you add an account for TikTok. Finally, enter the code provided by the authenticator app on the next screen in the TikTok app.
༚ Password
5. Tap Turn on to confirm.
6. If you choose Phone or Email:
༚ You'll be prompted to enter your email address or phone number if you haven't previously entered your contact information. Standard SMS fees may apply.
༚ Tap Send code, then enter the verification code sent to you via SMS or email.
The next time you log in, you'll be prompted to enter a verification code which will be sent to your phone number or email address, or can be found on your authenticator app, depending on the verification methods you selected. Enter the code into the 2-step verification prompt on your screen to confirm your identity.
