What is a passkey?

A passkey is a cryptographic key stored on your mobile device that can be used to log in to your TikTok account without having to remember a password.

Learn more about passkeys on Android and Apple.

To use a passkey on TikTok, you must meet the following requirements:

Android
•  Have a device running Android 9.0 or later.
•  Have screen lock enabled on your device.

Apple
•  Have a device running iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura, tvOS 16 or later.
•  iCloud Keychain must be turned on in your Apple device settings. For more information, visit Apple Support.
•  Two-factor authentication must be turned on for your Apple ID. For more information, visit Apple Support.

Why should I use a passkey on TikTok?

Passkeys can provide a more secure and simplified login method than traditional passwords because they take advantage of security features already allowed on your device, such as Face ID (Apple), Passcode (Apple), Touch Unlock (Android), and PIN (Android). TikTok can't access this biometric data and is only notified if the authentication is accepted.

For more information on Face ID and Touch ID, visit Apple Support. For more information on Android Face or Touch Unlock and PINs, visit Android Help.

How do passkeys work?

A passkey consists of a key pair which includes a public key linked to the website or app you're using and a second key, which is stored privately and securely in your personal iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, or other password manager that supports passkeys, such as 1Password. This allows you to log in to your passkey-enabled TikTok account from any device that is also signed in to your Apple ID or Google account.

When you log in with your passkey, your device will authenticate your identity with your face, fingerprint, or passcode to initiate the match between the private stored on your device and the public key stored with TikTok. We can't access your biometric or private passkey data and we're only notified if the authentication is accepted.

How to set up a passkey on TikTok

To set up a passkey on your TikTok account:
1. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
2. Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top.
3. Tap Settings and privacy.
4. Tap Account.
5. Tap Passkey, then tap Set up on the next screen and follow the instructions provided. If you create a passkey through Google Password Manager, you'll be redirected to this screen to complete the setup.

The next time you log in, you'll be prompted to log in with your saved passkey.

How to log in with a passkey on another device

Once you've set up passkeys, you can log in to your TikTok account on another Apple or Android device through the other device or sign-in options on the login screen. Upon logging in, you'll be prompted to scan the QR code with your device. Alternatively, if you're using an Apple device, you can use AirDrop to share the passkey to another device.

How to delete or turn off passkeys

You can delete a passkey you created to log in to TikTok in your device settings. After you remove the passkey, you'll no longer have the option to use a passkey the next time you log in to TikTok unless you create a new passkey.

You can also turn off a passkey from your iCloud keychain or Google Password Manager in your device settings. This won't delete your passkey, but you'll no longer be able to use your passkey or other information synced to your iCloud or Google account to log in to TikTok or other apps on your device. If you used a passkey from a different password manager such as 1Password, it can be removed from the key's settings.

Visit Apple Support to learn more about removing a passkey from your iPhone and Mac. To learn more about how to remove a passkey on your Android device, visit the Google Help Center.
