Why was my sound removed on TikTok?

We remove sounds added to TikTok if we find that they violate intellectual property or other Community Guidelines. You'll be notified if your sound is removed, and any TikTok videos that use that sound will be muted.

If you need to remove a sound you added to TikTok, learn how to remove original sounds.

What can I do if my sound is removed on TikTok?

Depending on the reason for your original sound being removed, you may be able to submit an appeal or replace the sound.

Sound removed due to Community Guidelines violations

If you believe your original sound was incorrectly removed for violating our Community Guidelines, let us know by submitting an appeal.

To submit an appeal:
1. In the TikTok app, go to your muted video.
2. Tap the notice at the bottom of the video to view more details on why the sound was removed.
3. Tap Submit appeal and follow the instructions to submit your appeal.

While we're reviewing your appeal, all videos that use your sound on TikTok will remain muted.

We'll notify you of our decision:
•  If your appeal is approved, we'll restore the sound on all videos that use it.
•  If your appeal isn't approved, all videos that use that sound will stay muted and you won't be able to replace the sound.

Sound removed due to copyright violations
If we remove your original sound because of copyright violations, you may be able to appeal this decision. If you can't appeal, you can still choose a new sound for your muted video.

To submit an appeal:
1. In the TikTok app, go to your muted video.
2. Tap the notice at the bottom of the video to view more details on why the sound was removed.
3. Tap Appeal and follow the instructions to submit your appeal.

While we're reviewing your appeal, all videos that use your sound on TikTok will remain muted.

To choose a new sound:
1. In the TikTok app, go to your muted video.
2. Tap the notice at the bottom of the video to check the reason why the sound was removed. If it was removed for copyright violations, continue to the next step.
3. Tap Change sound and choose a new sound. You can also trim the sound and adjust the volume.
4. Tap Post or Save sound changes. You may need to await approval before the sound can be replaced.

Keep in mind that the sound will only be updated for that video. If you've used the sound on other videos, you'll need to repeat the above steps for each video.
