What is the audience controls setting on TikTok?

The audience controls setting on TikTok gives creators flexible options to manage who can view their content and profile. Creators can tag individual content if it contains themes that they'd prefer to hide from people under the age of 18. Creators also have the option to set up audience controls for accounts to limit their profiles and content to people at least 18 years old.

Keep in mind that content tagged as audience controlled must adhere to our Community Guidelines and will still go through our content moderation process.

Why use the audience controls setting?

Content tagged as audience controlled will be inaccessible to people under 18 years old, which helps limit exposure to content that may not be suitable for teens. For example, if you post videos with sensitive themes or adult humor, you may consider using this setting to ensure it reaches the intended audience.

As a creator, if you decide to turn the audience controls setting on for your account, your profile, future videos, and LIVE videos will become unavailable to people under the age of 18. You won't be able to change this setting for your individual content.

Who can view content tagged as audience controlled?

You must be at least 18 years old to view video posts, LIVE videos, or accounts that are audience controlled. Keep in mind that if you have Restricted Mode turned on, you may not see audience-controlled content, regardless of your age.

Note: If you're 18 years old and older, make sure you're logged into TikTok and your date of birth is registered on your account to view audience-controlled content.
