What is the audience controls setting on TikTok?
Audience controls on TikTok allow creators to tag their content if it contains themes that they'd prefer is not recommended to those under the age of 18. Keep in mind, content tagged as audience controlled must adhere to our Community Guidelines and will still go through our content moderation process.
Why use the audience controls setting?
Content tagged as audience controlled will be inaccessible to users under the age of 18 which helps limit exposure to content that may not be suitable for teens. For example, if you post content with sensitive themes or adult humor, you may consider using this setting to ensure it reaches the intended audience.
Who can view content tagged as audience controlled?
You must be aged 18 and older to view content tagged as audience controls. Keep in mind, if you have Restricted Mode turned on, you may not see audience controlled content.
Note: If you're aged 18 years and older, make sure you're logged into your TikTok account and your date of birth is registered on your account to view audience controlled content.
How to turn the audience controls setting on or off
To tag your TikTok video as audience controlled:
1. Create your video.
2. On the Post screen, tap More options.
3. Turn the Audience controls setting on or off.
4. Review the terms and tap OK.
5. Make any additional changes on the Post screen and tap Post to complete.
To tag your TikTok LIVE as audience controlled:
1. On the GO LIVE screen, tap Settings.
2. Turn the Audience controls setting on or off.
3. Review the terms and tap OK.
4. Make any additional changes on the GO LIVE screen and tap GO LIVE to complete.
