What are mentions on TikTok?
Mentions allow you to tag people in your comments, Stories, posts, and captions. You can mention anyone with a TikTok account as long as they allow others to mention them, whether their account is private or public. The people you mention will be notified and directed to the content you've mentioned them in.
How to mention people on TikTok
To mention someone:
In a post
1. In the TikTok app, record or upload your content.
2. From the preview screen, choose one of the following options to mention someone:
༚ Tap the screen and type @ with the nickname of the person you'd like to mention or select from the list of suggested accounts (not available for text posts).
༚ Tap the Text button on the side and type @ with the nickname of the person you'd like to mention or select from the list of suggested accounts (not available for text posts).
༚ Tap the Stickers button on the side and select the Mention sticker, then type the nickname of the person you'd like to mention or select from the list of suggested accounts.
3. Make any additional edits and post to complete.
In a comment
1. In the TikTok app, go to the video you want to share with someone.
2. Tap the Comments button on the side of the video.
3. Tap the Mention button in the comment bar and type the nickname of the person you'd like to mention or select from the list of suggested accounts.
4. Tap the Post comment button.
In a post description
1. After creating and editing your content, continue to the Post screen.
2. Tap @ Mention and search for the person you'd like to mention or select from the list of suggested accounts.
3. Add your post description and hashtags, or make additional edits then tap Post.
Keep in mind that if you mention someone in a post, you'll receive notifications when their friends (followers they follow back) like or comment on that post.
How to manage who can mention you
You can choose who can mention you in their comments, Stories, photo posts, or video descriptions.
To manage your mentions settings:
1. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
2. Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top, then select Settings and privacy.
3. Tap Privacy.
4. Tap Mentions and tags.
5. Tap Mentions, then choose who you'd like to allow to mention you. You can choose Everyone, People you follow, Friends (followers you follow back), or No one.
