You can mute someone or mute posts to reduce distractions and hide content that doesn't interest you.

Muting direct messages

Muting direct messages from someone on TikTok means you won't receive notifications in your inbox when they message you. You can mute direct messages from mutual friends, accounts you follow, or your followers.

To mute inbox notifications:
1. In the TikTok app, tap Inbox at the bottom.
2. From here:
༚  For iOS devices, swipe a chat, then tap More.
༚  For Android devices, press and hold a chat.
3. Tap Mute to stop getting notifications for the chat.

You can also mute notifications directly from a chat by tapping the More options  button at the top of the chat, then turning the Mute notifications setting on. Alternatively, you can mute push notifications to reduce distraction.

Muting notifications

Muting notifications means you won't receive push notifications when someone posts content or goes LIVE.

To mute push notifications:
1. In the TikTok app, go to the person's profile.
2. Tap the Notification settings button at the top.
3. Select None to mute their posts or LIVE videos.

Keep in mind that if you've previously turned off post notifications for all accounts you follow in your privacy settings, you can't manage notification settings individually.

We mute push notifications on teens' devices for a specific period of time. For parents and guardians, you can schedule additional time to mute your teen's push notifications in Family Pairing.

Muting posts

Muting someone's posts means their posts won't appear in your feeds, unless you visit their profile. People you've muted won't be notified when you mute them, and they'll continue to see your posts.
