About Government, Politician, and Political Party Accounts (GPPPAs)
More than one billion people rely on TikTok to express themselves creatively, share their talents, enjoy entertaining content, and engage with a diverse community. Many governments, political figures, and political parties around the world are on our platform, and we welcome them to TikTok to discover a diversity of ideas and creators and to connect with others in their community. Because of their important roles in civic processes and civil society, we classify relevant political TikTok accounts as Government, Politician, and Political Party Accounts (GPPPAs) and apply a number of policies that help ensure the right experience.
Who is considered to be a GPPPA?
• National/Federal Government-run entities such as agencies, ministries, or offices
• State/Provincial and local government entities
• Candidates and elected officials at the federal/national level
• Government officials at the federal/national level, such as cabinet ministers and ambassadors
• Official spokesperson or member of senior staff for a national/state-level candidate or elected/appointed official. Examples may include Chief of Staff, Campaign Director, or Digital Director.
• Official spokesperson, member of senior staff, or executive leaders for a political party. Examples may include Party Chairman or Finance Director.

• Government officials at the state/provincial and local levels, as determined by regional public policy based on market factors
Important things to know about GPPPAs:
• GPPPAs are required to be registered in the country where they primarily operate, such as where an elected official holds office or where a government entity is legally registered. We may change a GPPPA's registered location in accordance with this policy and notify the account holders of the change.
• Accounts are subject to our GPPPA policies when they meet the relevant criteria. If a GPPPA no longer meets the criteria, the GPPPA designation and its associated policies will not apply to the account.
• If you need help troubleshooting your account or you wish to appeal a GPPPA classification, you can contact us in-app or on a web browser.
What restrictions apply to a GPPPA?
If your account is designated as a GPPPA, the following features may not be available to you:
Incentive programs and creator monetization features
GPPPAs are ineligible to take part in any incentive program or use any TikTok creator monetization features on the platform. This includes, but is not limited to, e-commerce, TikTok One, and the Creator Rewards Program. In practice, this means that GPPPAs will largely not be able to give or receive any money through TikTok's monetization features.
Advertising
At TikTok, people can share political content as long as it follows our Community Guidelines. However, we don't allow paid political advertising because the nature of paid political ads doesn't fit the TikTok experience. In addition to our paid political advertising policy, we prohibit advertising of any kind by individual political figures and entities. Learn more about our paid political advertising policy in our Business Help Center.
Governmental and intergovernmental entities are eligible to advertise on TikTok, provided they work directly with a TikTok sales representative, complete our certification process, and follow all platform policies, including our government advertising policy.
In addition, only official entities responsible for overseeing elections, such as Electoral Management Bodies, are eligible to advertise regarding elections or referendums on TikTok. References to an upcoming or current election or referenda, including appeals for votes, voter registration, and promoting participation, are prohibited by all other advertisers.
Keep in mind that these policies apply across any of our advertising features, including paid ads, creators being compensated for making branded content, and the use of other promotional tools on the platform. All advertisers must comply with our Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, and all policies found in our Business Help Center governing the use of our services.
Campaign (election) fundraising
Just as political advertising doesn't fit with our goal of making TikTok a place that brings people together, neither does campaign fundraising. Solicitations for campaign fundraising by GPPPAs are not permitted on the platform. That includes content like a video from a politician asking for donations, or a political party directing people to a donation page on their website.
Music
GPPPAs can access music in our Commercial Music Library (CML) or upload music from their personal devices. In each case, you should only include music in a post if you've obtained authorization from the parties that own or control rights to that music.
Selecting music from our CML
Some, but not all, of the music in our CML, such as commercial sounds, is authorized for use by GPPPAs. If you choose to include a commercial sound in your TikTok post, you should first obtain authorization from the parties which own or control rights in that music to avoid the possibility of having your post muted or removed. Your use of any commercial sound is governed by our Commercial Music Library Terms.
Uploading your own music
You can also upload music from your personal device and include it directly in your TikTok post. If you upload music from your personal device, your use of music will be governed by our Terms of Service and you confirm that (i) you own all the rights to the music; (ii) your use of the music is otherwise permitted by law; or (iii) you have obtained authorization from the parties which own or control rights in that music. You also shouldn't use music uploaded by another person unless you've obtained permission from all necessary rights holders to do so.
Learn more about the CML in our Business Help Center.
Account moderation
We use the same content moderation practices on GPPPAs as we do for other TikTok accounts. This means we'll remove any violative content and permanently remove the account for any single severe content violation, such as showing real-world violence or torture. However, because of the role these public interest accounts play in civic processes and civil society, we enforce different account restrictions in keeping with our commitment to human rights and free expression.

How to get a verification badge on your account
TikTok provides verified badges on some accounts, which means we've confirmed that the account belongs to the person, business, or brand it presents. Verified badges help people make informed choices about the accounts they choose to follow. It's also an easy way for notable figures to let people know they’re seeing authentic content, and it helps to build trust among high-profile accounts and their followers. For individuals, nonprofits, institutions, businesses, or official brand pages, this badge builds an important layer of clarity with the TikTok community.
If you have a GPPPA, you can complete a TikTok verification application in the TikTok app or through our online form to be considered for a verified badge. While it's currently optional in most markets, we strongly recommend getting your GPPPA verified. Keep in mind that we require GPPPAs in the U.S. to be verified.
If you'd like to get your GPPPA verified, keep in mind:
• A verified badge doesn't imply an endorsement by TikTok.
• A verified badge doesn't indicate your account is a GPPPA.
• Your GPPPA is still restricted from the features listed above if you're granted a verification badge.
• We consider a number of factors before granting a verified badge, such as whether the notable account is authentic, unique, and active. Learn more about verified badges on TikTok.
• We may send you an email if you submitted a verified badge application or have yet to submit one. In some cases, you may be asked to confirm or update your account details.
TikTok doesn't charge to get verified. Any entity claiming to sell TikTok verifications is unaffiliated with the company.
How to protect your account on TikTok
TikTok is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone in our community. For further protection, we require GPPPAs in the U.S. to turn on 2-step verification, and we recommend that GPPPAs everywhere use this extra layer of security.
